Re: Multi Threadedness ?

I was trying to rip of anyone else's previous work product, but if we're all at the same 0-point, maybe we should try teaming up and see what we can invent.

Re: Multi Threadedness ?

Have any of you fiddled with trying to leverage the existing process management commands to do this? Mark and I have been going back and forth about it for a couple of days, so I have an idea on something to try, but if someone has already tried it then I won't have to: 1) Build a standalone with a ...

Re: Multi Threadedness ?

Mark, For my discussion, waitDepth is only a problem if we are dealing with a single thread, because we are trying to manually manage the events that in a multi-threaded setup would be handled directly by the scheduler. The two paragraphs on the script library I removed because I missed the part whe...

Re: Multi Threadedness ?

The reason for going generic in my email to you is because I don't want to spend an hour doing an LCMark on a message explaining what we do until you had a background on the tools we use to do it (what's a "worker"?). I'm going to ignore Xojo for this conversation, since it's model is cooperative, a...

Re: Multi Threadedness ?

If anyone else is really interested in this topic then I think it should take place out in the open so we're not all doing this privately. I did email Mark privately. It was pretty short and simple, pointing out a few things that we are doing with RAD tools that compete with LC but are in my opinion...

Re: Multi Threadedness ?

Mark, What you are proposing is the very definition of a workaround. Workarounds aren't good enough for mission-critical systems. They have to just function. They have to recover when things go badly and no one with admin credentials is there to fix it. The mergGoogle issues are really (really) anno...

Re: Multi Threadedness ?

I want to apologize to everyone for being snarky and petulant on this thread since I jumped in. Really, this comes down to one thought.

My company's mission-critical software has to have it. LC doesn't offer it.

Re: Multi Threadedness ?

Not to repeat myself on this topic, but "you can figure out a way to work around it" is not the same as "this can make your life better". We don't need script-only stacks, but boy do they make developing in LC better. We don't need native widgets, but boy do they make developing LC apps better. Use ...

Re: Multi Threadedness ?

I see what you were asking on sync/async now. I am more thinking about comms priority. I am not aware of an environment that has thread blocking. I'm not sure if that is even a good thing, especially since if the process wants to wait, it can wait. I'm not thinking of multithreading/processing/taski...

Re: Multi Threadedness ?

Skipping the primer for the n00bs at the top, and down to the questions: On the first question, at least in my experience, this is a typical IP messaging model. Synchronous messaging refers to in-real-time or ASAP messages. Asynchronous messaging means anything other than that. This lets the engine ...
