Re: What is the best DE for using Livecode with Ubuntu 18.04?

KDE isn't "officially" supported; LC spends disproportionately on Linux as it is, it would be prohibitive to try to cover all the variety Linux offers.

I wonder if we might be able to get someone from the KDE world interested in working on this...

Re: encrypting content in standalone stack

Would it be practical to store the content externally from the UI? That would give you file encryption options. You could also do that with a stack: read a stack file as binary into memory, encrypt it, write it to disk. To read, read as binary, decrypt, and use "go stack <variablename>" to open it f...

Re: Multi Threadedness ?

Are you launching the workers with -ui? I don't even know if that's possible on mobile OSes, or if any of this sort of multiprocessing can work there. But on the desktop it will, and in the coming months I'll be moving some of these experiments to a server where my own interests in this are centered...

Re: encrypting content in standalone stack

A standalone can't be opened in the IDE. True enough, but if I read his sentence correctly, he may be talking about stacks included in a 'standalone deployment', not parts of the actual standalone (like the IDE is deployed). It might be. I was responding to: a stack that is part of a standalone app...

Re: encrypting content in standalone stack

A standalone can't be opened in the IDE. Once rendered into an executable, the attachment of the engine changes the structure of the file such that the IDE won't know what to do with it. That said, everything is hackable. Any content that can be seen can be copied. Any data in RAM can be dumped. If ...

Re: Multi Threadedness ?

Thanks for that background, Mark. I'll move forward with what we have for now, and look forward to building on that as options expand down the road.

Re: Search Error Message

If a field is open for editing, such as the Search field in this palette, the palette would have focus.

To shift focus to another stack for subsequent commands set the defaultStack global property to that stack.

Re: What is the best DE for using Livecode with Ubuntu 18.04?

I like Ubuntu straight out of the box, so Unity - and more recently, Gnome Shell - have been good for me.

But I do have one machine here running Lubuntu, which uses LXDE, close enough in flavor to XFCE that I'd say you should have a pretty good time with either.

...it would certainly be easier to just put an empty openCard handler on the search stack card and eliminate the field "page" from that stack setup altogether.
Or move the code to the shared group. Either option will work well without needing to add extra stuff.

Is field "page" in the palette or the topstack?

Re: Can't Close Splash Stack on Stand Alone

Then we have a problem, and an opportunity: The problem is that document file extensions like ".livecode" are just that, to identify documents. When a LiveCode stack file is made into a standalone, the document extension is removed, thus making hard-wired paths that rely on it from when it was a doc...

Re: Can't Close Splash Stack on Stand Alone

It is a global variable that is set to the location of the build. For Mac it has been set to specialFolderPath("Resources") & "/". Is that where the stack is? Try adding: put (appLocn & "teacherStart.livecode") into tStackFile answer "Exists?: "& there is a stack tStackFile &cr& tStackFile That'll ...

Re: Multi Threadedness ?

@FourthWorld: In not-quite reverse order (just because...) Though I'm focused on what I can do with the engine we have now, it may also be helpful to plan ahead: do you foresee a specific future version in which "open process" would include callbacks? Indeed - as am I - although I did mention a few...
