...having to say "put 0 into i" is one of the ugliest things about the LiveCode language.
For me the difference between "=" and "==" is one of the ugliest things about a dozen other languages.

Re: writing a file while another process is reading it

Greg, if this is on your Linux server you can reduce latency even more by using /run/shm/ as your write location.

That's essentially a RAM disk built into the system. Fast, but of course if you need a failsafe in addition to speed you may also want to write a copy to physical storage.

Re: Multiple Variable on Repeat Functrion .... ?

Since the range within a loop is the same, you can maintain the var j within the loop by just adding to i:

Code: Select all

repeat with i = 1 to 10
   put i+9 into j
   DoSomethingWith i,j
end repeat

Re: Running Ubuntu Linux on Virtualbox

The latest LTS is always the best version unless you have a specific reason to use something earlier. Currently that's Ubuntu 18.04.

Re: Accessing grouped objects from card behavior script

I've removed that and tried your suggestion of "me", and all of the stuff from my previous post. Same error. I finally just scrapped it and started over. Of course it works just fine now. What changed that made it work? Out of curiosity, how does the message path change with "start editing group"? ...

Re: Accessing grouped objects from card behavior script

Jean-Marc is spot on: editing backgrounds is a mode provided to assist certain layout tasks within the IDE. Nothing prevents you from using it in your scripts, but things are usually simpler without it. And since you're using a behavior, "me" will refer to the object the script is attached to, which...

Re: Limit stack aspect ratio

Operating systems make it easy to handle the contents of a window however you like, but make it harder to introduce non-standard behavior for the window itself. I've also found that users sometimes use windows for proposes beyond just viewing the content we put in them, such as maximizing them to co...

Re: Problem with HTTP access on Android

BTW: how would I write back to the Internet-File? Very carefully. After all, if it's easy for you to overwrite files on a server, it would be easy for criminals anywhere in the world to do the same. HTTPS is usually the best choice for most server tasks, unless you have a specific reason why anothe...

Re: Printing delivery note

Hi bangkok, It can be very simple with LiveCode, but printing labels with a Zebra printer in FileMaker, which are not compatible is not. With a printer technician we spent about 3 hours to configure it, the size of the label that you put on the printer has nothing to do with the FileMaker. I alread...

Re: retrieve livecode code from standalone desktop app

Code that can be executed through a processor must conform to the expectations of the processor. Familiarity with the processor's instruction allows converting code from binary form into human-readable Assembler. Some tools can even turn Assembler into C. It's not good C, in terms of how you'd want ...
