It's Deliberately Vague, Marielle

Geez, Marielle, why must you always jump to attack and confrontation when a subject like this comes up? As a careful reading of my post will reveal, I did not propose a fully specified solution. I indicated, rather, that I am in the beginning stages of exploring this possibility. I have no clue at t...

What I'm Interested In

Andre, The part of this that I'm most interested in helping to develop is a drag-and-drop application that would allow the creation of the user interface portion of an AJAX app. I'm working now on examining the two or three most popular JS libraries to either pick one or define a common subset of fu...

I think Death misses part of the point

I think making Rev something like Flash etc is a mistake, it's already out there (Flash for ex.) hehe If I want to do WEB stuff, I use RAD's like Frontpage and JS, PHP etc, they were made for this and I don't think REV should be sidetracking into competing with a gazillion WEB tools out there... De...

Not Obvious

I didn't click the "?" and I wouldn't have thought to click there for docs when there is a menu item and a toolbar item for documentation. I'd think these docs would be integrated into those locations.

Also, there appear to be no docs for the other three templates.

What Docs?

Malte.... I may get time to answer some of your questions later, but your comment at one point that, "I think the docs need to be clearer here" got my attention. As far as I can tell, there are no docs. Only Rev docs. Nothing at all about Media, how to use it, what it's intended for. Nothing. It's a...

Got the Sound Files to Load

Malte..... Changing the file type popup got the sound files to load OK. They're embedded in QT movies. I don't know anything about the other characteristics you asked about; I'm not a multimedia guy. These are sound files from a book I have for learning FinalCut Pro. But I have to tell you, this who...

QT Sounds Aren't Recognized

I have a bunch of sound effects in QT format on my system from my work with FinalCut Pro. I figured I'd see how they worked in the game template, so I started a new game, dragged in an opening picture, clicked on the sound control and my file dialog opened. I navigated to the folder where those QT s...

Confused and a Little Disappointed

Well, I just spent an hour with Rev Media. I've worked with all four template types briefly and must say I find myself disappointed. They all promise great things eventually but not one of them feels "done" to me. The biggest problem I encountered: what kinds of media files can you use? It's not doc...

JavaScript OSA Works Well

I've never tried using the JavaScript OSA in Rev, but I've used it from Python and Terminal with success and not a lot of hassle. It's been a while but my sense is it works fine.

How About Linux?

Does this database and XML stuff work on Linux servers? I'd think that would be a bigger issue since not many people are running Windows servers and even fewer are running Mac servers.

Shao Sean's Rev Stance

I deliberately didn't supply a link to Shao Sean's site because of that front-page diatribe and because she has clearly indicated that she will no longer support any of the Rev products. (I'm not even sure she's a she. Sorry if I'm wrong.) The email libraries are now in the public domain if I read t...

If I move to Media and start entering data in my stacks, will the stacks still work right in Dreamcard 2.7?
I don't even know there will be a DC 2.7, will there? I thought Rev had indicated that Media replaces DC?

JavaScript, Yes; Rev, Not Yet

PDFs are JavaScriptable and using JavacScript, you can definitely supply information for fields on a form completion PDF application. As far as I know, nobody has yet tackled this issue in Rev. Interesting project, though. I don't know if Adobe publishes the API for forms completion but dissecting t...

Two Alternatives

To send email from a Rev app, you have two choices. You can use the revMail command (see the documentation) which will launch the user's mail application and enable him or her simply to click "Send" on an email generated by that command. You can use libEMail and write Rev scripts to build and send t...
