Re: Alternative Syntax options?

If automatic scaling and native look and feel are in place, then yes I agree I can live with the syntax. The most frustrating part of the verbose syntax is in developing dozens of line of code with very highly technical functionality. If that can be severely reduced, and the majority of the code is ...

Re: Alternative Syntax options?

Thanks for the history lesson, though it was unneccesary since I've developed in more than a dozen languages and systems since 1978 including HyperCard and Visual Basic in the 1990's. I've already given LiveCode more time that I would care to. I was originally looking for a Visual Basic like product...

Alternative Syntax options?

I've been looking for information about alternative syntaxes for LiveCode, which I understood was on of the expected outcomes of the Open Source release. Basically, I'm very unhappy with the so-called "natural language" syntax. I would much prefer a strict syntax with strong type casting, fewer keyw...

Re: livecode 5.5.1 and android

4.1 appears to be supported in LC 5.5.2

I believe (but don't know for certain) that "Android API" is the Android O.S., and the Google API is an API for accessing Google services from the Android app.

I don't think you'll want or need the Google API for LC development

Re: stack not launching on device

This was happening to me today.

Upgrade to 5.5.2 to resolve the issue, if you have not resolved it already.

Re: objects look so "wrong" and "ugly" on device

The style of buttons and every object looks completely "window'ish" when testing on my device which has miui (4.0.3 based). shgouldnt these objects inherit the look of the android system so they look somewhat normal? also, why is the size of things soooo messed up? but on my pc screen all looks so ...

Re: Which version of Android do you install?

For basic functionality testing during development, I installed a low version of the OS. This way, I know I'm testing with features that "should" be available in all handsets. I also test periodically on my physical android device, which has a very recent version of the OS installed. If you don't ha...

Re: Can you have 2 data grids in one stack?

I have the same problem. In my case, I copy/pasted a group which contained a data grid. Now, neither of my data grids are working correctly. However, deleting the second data grid did not fix the problem. My first data grid still does not work. Furthermore, my group has stopped processing some messa...

Re: Programmer needs a reference ...

This is an old thread, but it may be useful to add that in the current release, there is more in-IDE documentation of the functions and objects. I still find the language weak and somewhat ambiguous, but it is still far better than before when you had only a fat PDF reference guide and sample code t...

Re: Creating Tabbed Content on Android

Thanks sturgis, this conversation is bringing back some ideas from the last time I tried to evaluate liveCode. Right now I'm messing around with the TickedOff sample application, but the more I look at how it's structured, the more I think it is unnecessarily complex and perhaps is not the best temp...

Re: Creating Tabbed Content on Android

Thanks Jacob, I appreciate the feedback. I'm working on this now. I think I made one flawed assumption about groups being scriptable - it looks like the groups themselves are not scriptable. Edit: Groups ARE scriptable If that's the case, I may go to a hybrid option using cards for tabs, and using g...

Creating Tabbed Content on Android

I've read what I can find on this topic, and this is what I believe I've found. I'm looking for verification/correction on this: The basic issue is the need to create a panel of content on the screen of the phone which a) Displays a different set of controls to the user depending on which tab is sel...

Re: Livecode stacks will not run on x86 emulator (HAXM MacOS

I wanted to know if anyone else has used LiveCode with x86, and if/whether it is supposed to be supported.

I thought you were with RunRev. I'll submit a support request to them, when I get a chance.
