Re: Unpacking LC on Linux

Richmond, If you always choose the install only for self option (IIRC this is what you've said you do) all Livecode components are installed in a '~/.runrev' directory. The icon is installed in '~/.local/share/applications' Those are the only locations where the installer puts anything unless you i...

Re: Standalone: Saving prefs

I came here for a different purpose, however, the question posed was interesting to me, so I thought I would input my .02 (worth less due to inflation). On the general question, Klaus (and Jacque's follow up) nail most situations, but Craig's answer deserves a little more explanation. [3] Splash sta...

Re: browser still broken on linux, or just me?

To be clear, I installed and ran the most recent ISO of ArchCraft without any modification in both VirtualBox and on hardware and get different results. The graphics layer seems the most likely candidate and it's most difficult to believe that gconf is a part of the problem . I'll check into tweaks...

Re: browser still broken on linux, or just me?

I just installed ArchCraft in a VirtualBox machine, using the emulated graphics card, and the browser works. What graphics card and drivers are you running? When I am testing things like this, I use exactly the method you just described, Virt. box or (as in this case) VmWare. However, what you desc...

Re: browser still broken on linux, or just me?

On understanding that you were using ArchCraft, I downloaded and did a default install, then dl'd Lc 9.6.2 and installed that. Not sure why the browser doesn't work on your box, changing nothing (well, I changed the theme :P ) it worked here ? https://imgur.com/WVtaGxo.png In fact, that was probably...

Re: browser still broken on linux, or just me?

After running through a failed installation for the better part of an hour, I at least remember *why* I didn't have any Arch ISOs available to test with hahaha. I'm going to test a different plasma distro, and see if it is an issue there.

Re: browser still broken on linux, or just me?

Not sure about Arch, which is one of the few distro's I've never gotten around too, so will have to look at it next weekend (will likely not have time this week). I know that in Deb based distros, libgconf pulls in 2 more packages through Synaptic (treat recommended as required setting). I'll play w...

Re: browser still broken on linux, or just me?

OMFG ! I can't believe the solution to this would have eluded me for this long, but I think I finally found the answer of all places on Max's Lc wiki https://i.postimg.cc/SsDK9VTd/SLAP.gif I want to personally thank whoever the nameless contributor was in the comments who posted this solution! https...

Re: Linux Mint or Linux Ubuntu for Livecode

in the screen where there's "For all users", "For you only" & "Custom", when you choose "For you only" you get the correct path. In the screen after choosing "Custom", there's always "/opt/..." selected. It doesn't change when you select "For you only" here... Right, now (I think) we're on the same...

Re: Linux Mint or Linux Ubuntu for Livecode

Sun Jul 04, 2021 5:00 pm You don't need admin permissions to install for you only, in this case, the problem was that you were trying to install it into the 'opt' folder. What Mark alluded too was that normally, when you install for "you only", by default the installer will install it to '/home/use...

Re: Linux Mint or Linux Ubuntu for Livecode

... when uninstalling I find it help to start from the .rurev/components folder and from the commandline say <folderThatContainsTheVersionYouWantToUninstall>/setup.x86_64 uninstall and that way you don't have to do any cleanup of other files/folders. Erm, you do know that just runs the same uninsta...

Re: Linux Mint or Linux Ubuntu for Livecode

Yah, most definitely don't do that unless you like going back to the command line to reset the permissions on your home folder back to the user heh. Overall it isn't terrible, but it is (depending on how many files, folders, subfolders etc you have) a good way to waste out half an hour

Re: Linux Mint or Linux Ubuntu for Livecode

Why do I need admin permission for "Install for me only" at all? Isn't this strange? Or is is just a wrong path from the installer? You don't need admin permissions to install for you only, in this case, the problem was that you were trying to install it into the 'opt' folder. What Mark alluded too...

Re: Linux Mint or Linux Ubuntu for Livecode

quick report for Linux Mint 20.1 Mate 64-bit: Trying to install LC 9.6.2 fails: Unable to create required folder at '/opt/livecode/ ...' No matter if for "you only" or "all users". Installing elsewhere (here: '/home/User/Documents') works, though. Still, having checked "Lauch Livecode" at the end o...
