Re: Set File Icon?

Other than changing the icon of the file, my app makes no changes to the file whatsoever.

Re: Set File Icon?

Hi Jacque, I am building an app that determines which version of an app a file was built with and then open said file with the appropriate app version (see https://forums.livecode.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=30056). I have all that working but because I have set several file types to open with my app, t...

Set File Icon?

Hello,

Is there a way to set the icon of a file (a Microsoft Word file) for example? After checking the dictionary, there doesn't seem to be a way to do this?

Thank you so much,
Jon :)

Re: Get File Type/Creator?

Hi FourthWorld,

I tried your suggestion. Double-clicking the zip file yields a .cpgz file. If I double-click that, I get another zip file which then leads to another .cpgz file when double-clicked.

Not sure what that means but I am guessing that means it's not in a zip format?

Thank you,
Jon :)

Re: Get File Type/Creator?

Hi everyone, I have my app pretty much working. I would like to add support for QuarkXPress files however, when opening a Quark file with a text editor, virtually all the content within is gibberish. I assume this is intended by the software developer. So here's my question as I am not certain of th...

Re: Get File Type/Creator?

Hi Jacque, Yes, I have examined the InDesign file and the string I am looking for IS in there. It seems that no matter what I do, I get the "Not Found." dialog box before the text appears in the text field. It seems like I need some sort of break (as if the app were idle) in between commands because...

Re: Get File Type/Creator?

Hi Jacque,

Did I do something wrong?

I do need to put the contents of the file into the field. From there, I can have LC search the contents for a particular text string. Ultimately, my plan is to put the contents into a variable (which I hope will be faster).

Thank you,
Jon

Re: Get File Type/Creator?

Hi Klaus, I think you hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately, it seems that no matter what I do, I can't get the information to show in the field before the app checks the field for the particular text string (even if I extend the loadFile time to 5 seconds). Loading the URL into a variable instead...

Re: Get File Type/Creator?

I think I am getting closer to making this work however I've hit a snag that I don't understand. Using lessons from LC, this is the script I've pieced together: on startup local tFileName put $1 into tFileName loadFile tFileName end startup ## We use an appleEvent to detect if the app was started by...

Re: Get File Type/Creator?

Hi FourthWorld,

Thank you for the reply. I'd really like to try to build an app that would do this but I don't know to read the gibberish within an InDesign file when opened with a text editor (let alone how to tell LC how to interpret it) :(

Best regards,
Jon

Re: Get File Type/Creator?

Is there a shell command that could be invoked within a script that could determine application version?

Thanks,
Jon

Get File Type/Creator?

Hi everyone, I have several versions of InDesign installed.... Is there a way to drop an InDesign file onto a LiveCode app that determines the files (version/creator?) and then opens the file with the appropriate InDesign version? I looked at the LC dictionary and found "fileType" but it seems that ...

Re: Something strange...

Klaus - yep, that fixed it! I should have known that. Even back in my HyperCard days, I always used the <> for not equal! :) Craig - yes, I am aware of the importance of testing the standalone. While this particular app is extremely simple, it has been compiled several times to test each buttons fun...

Re: Something strange...

Hi bogs (and everyone else), I got it working!!! Thank you! Changes are now saved! :) I have everything working....except one thing. For some reason, after the app is built, one button does nothing when I click it. I have confirmed that a script is present and that it works in the native stack. It's...
