Re: running in background

Thanks for the suggestion TomBTG, but that was already done. There exists in fact an excellent gadget that does the required alarm functions, but the developers have not updated it for at least five years, the site seems dead and it will stop running when Apple abandons 32bit. Since we're on ergonom...

Re: running in background

Agreed, leave it as example; good idea.

When the program is finished I'll post it here too then. Plus its documentation.

Re: running in background

Hi Craig, Thanks. I think I made a stupid mistake: for testing I had somewhere …if the optionkey is up then send "…" to me in 1 second so that I could stop the clock by pressing option briefly. However, obviously if I hide the program by holding down the optionkey while clicking elsewhere, the sendi...

running in background

Hi, I'm writing an "Alarm" program (desktop). It compares the current time with that of the next alarm and sounds an alarm when that time passes. This is done by sending a check message every second. So far so good. But problems start when the user is doing other things than staring at the alarm pro...

Re: virtual desktop - spaces

I wasn't referring to any plan to have the app try to set or enforce its own rule. I meant the user setting up the window rule, which would be a simple rule telling the window manager to always place the app on all desktops. The app isn't aware or doing any talking, it just takes orders from the wi...

Re: virtual desktop - spaces

It appears that when you right+click an application's dock icon in MacOS you will see a contextual menu that allows you to assign the app to a specific desktop. You can also assign it to ALL desktops. This should do what you want, no? Yes, this is what I (he) wants for now, because it does solve th...

Re: virtual desktop - spaces

Hi wsamples: From what I understand there is a kernel, which in the case of Linux and macOS should be very similar if not identical, but then above that there are things that vary widely (or should I say "wildly" ). The window manager is probably among them, since on macOS it is called WindowServer....

Re: virtual desktop - spaces

I'll mess around with that a little too. This code works: global gRun on OpenStack put true into gRun show me RunIt end OpenStack command RunIt hide me set the topleft of me to 200,300 wait 20 ticks show me if gRun then send "RunIt" to me in 1 seconds end RunIt but obviously it's not really efficien...

Re: virtual desktop - spaces

Sorry, yes, Linuxes also have them. And if Apple continues the way it goes, I'll have to switch to one of them soon. Agreed also that it is not easy to implement. So I guess the answer must be that for the time being it is not available, i.e. I can't find out, at least not from LiveCode. I thought d...

virtual desktop - spaces

Hello, I have an application that I always want to be visible, whatever space (aka virtual desktop) I'm working on. The message desktopChanged is sent when the screen's definition(*) or aspect ratio changes, but apparently not when I go to a different space on the same screen. The screenRects is not...

Re: mousedoubleup

If you need to handle both and have them do completely different things, then typically this means there's a flaw in the UI design. It should perhaps be avoided, but what about the OSX Finder? It has singe and double clicks (and delays before you can edit a name? Or text editors which set the inser...

Combine array in key order

combine array at present gives unexpected results. Extending the command to make it look like the sort command would be useful. Example: I had to mark up each line of a long text with html tags, depending on the content of the line and also the contents of the two adjacent lines. The original algor...

Re: combine scrambles array

Hi. No mistake. LC arrays are purely associative, … … . The array will appear the way LC feels like assembling it, not the way you fed it. But this should never matter. Craig Newman Craig, I disagree. I just lost several hours trying to figure out why combine produced an unexpected result. There ar...

Re: LC Server and UTF8

Thanks.
I have removed BOMs everywhere. They also interfere if you use them in .htaccess files and other places.
OK for now.
