Re: Alternative to PUT value INTO variable

Yah, that's the one thing that bugs me about python programming. But a good IDE will enforce proper indentation to help keep you out of trouble. ... and don't forget ruby's spaceship operator (<=>). It's actually a very useful operator, and one that would help solve a lot of the numeric/string compa...

Re: On/Off auto-type in preferences

Interesting. I don't think I ever noticed that forum. From the looks of things, I'm not sure anybody actually reads or replies to that. But read this for the place to report bugs:

Re: On/Off auto-type in preferences

My thoughts on this run this way - I don't think the behavior is intended, so I do think it is a 'bug'. What I'm guessing from the behavior I see is that when you turn off formatting, and insert spaces instead of a tab, there is no handler setup to correctly handle that. In that case, it defaults t...

Re: On/Off auto-type in preferences

First, when I insert a tab, it occupies eight columns, even though I've set the indentation level in Preferences to 2. That's pretty bizarre. It's still sounding to me like your preferences file is borked. I use Lucida Console, which is fixed spacing I use SourceCode Pro, which is also a fixed-spac...

Re: On/Off auto-type in preferences

Well, given that Paul is having real problems with the script editor I think this is worth pursuing. When I (often) seem to have problems that nobody else can replicate, my first suspect (after my own code) is the preferences file. I especially had very weird problems moving up to LC7/8 because of i...

Re: On/Off auto-type in preferences

Paul-

Eight tabs *is* excessive. It's hard to believe that's the default. Mine's set to three, and it's configurable in the preferences panel.

Anything else you don't like about the script editor's choice of formatting? There may be a way to control it.

Re: On/Off auto-type in preferences

Yeah, pressing the tab key will do the trick.
Also, if you enable AutoFormat when you paste the code it will be properly indented. That's what AutoFormat is for.

Re: On/Off auto-type in preferences

Not sure what you mean by 'improper indentation'. Do you have Autoformat enabled?

Re: Alternative to PUT value INTO variable

If you want to monkeypatch your own preprocessor into the script editor, here's the code to handle the conversion. The works well for script-only stacks because you can write the code in a text file with a normal text editor, then run the conversion in memory so that the LC compiler doesn't choke. Y...

Re: On/Off auto-type in preferences

The blinking cursor is just before the first char of text, but when you select a block of text for copying you get everything to the left margin.

FYI: python 3

In case anyone else is tempted... setting python3 as the default won't even start to compile the source code. If you've got both python 2.x and python 3.x installed, as I have, ensure that python 2.x is the default for python. I ended up spinning my wheels for the longest time with a weird error fro...

Should make embossed bytecoins instead. Then we could cut them up and bitcoins would be Pieces of Eight.
