Re: Unable to understand Java FFI example

The documentation at https://github.com/livecode/livecode/blob/develop/docs/guides/LiveCode%20Builder%20Language%20Reference.md#foreign-handlers states Note: In a subsequent update you will be able to define record types (named collections of values - like structs in C) and handler types (allowing d...

Re: Player does not show on ubuntu

No, there's no error on setting the global variable, I just don't see any code in the engine that uses it.
And maybe that's why it crashes on my system, since I don't have xanim installed, and it's expecting xanim no matter what I set as the player.

Re: Player does not show on ubuntu

The player control yah, but what he is talking about (videoClipPlayer) says you can set the path to *any* player, not just xanim I'm not convinced that's what the documentation means there. There's code in the engine to set and retrieve the global setting for the videoclip player (MCLegacySetVcPlay...

Re: Player does not show on ubuntu

MaxV- AFAICT the player control will *only* use mplayer on linux, and the xanim link is only for videoclips and audioclips. Please do correct me if I'm wrong about that. Also, the last xanim release was 1999 (version 2.80.1), it's not available in current distros - has to be downloaded from the deve...

Re: Player does not show on ubuntu

Yeah, VLC is my goto video player on any platform. In a previous life I made an LC external to interface to the vlc sdk. But that was then, and it was under contract, and I no longer have the files. Plus it would be easier now with LCB. Anyone? Bueller? https://www.videolan.org/developers/vlc.html h...

Re: Player does not show on ubuntu

Note also if you're developing this for more than just your own system that mplayer isn't necessarily installed by default on all linux systems.

Note #2: I've never gotten the "stop" command to stop a playing video on linux. Once it starts playing you have to wait for the end.

Re: Not declaring Local Variables and script works ! why declaring them then ?

Jacque and I have had this running argu^H^H^Hdiscussion for years now. :P I *always* declare my variables. Yes, even within functions, and I have 'strict variable checking' enabled to catch me if I forget one. I believe in letting the compiler do what it was designed to do instead of doing the work ...

Re: a roundDown function

Depends on your needs. Rounding and truncating are different operations. The difference is that the statRound() function will return the *nearest* value with reference to the desired number of decimal places, and for negative values the *nearest* may not be the *next lower*. The trunc() function wil...

bogs-

I've looked at geany, but I have atom and sublimetext. what's so special about Yet Another (Yawn) Text Editor?

...and I'm in the same boat with Richard. Nano usually for quick tasks. I don't have the muscle memory yet to be good at vim/emacs/whatever, but I'm mostly a cli guy.

Re: are there attempts to develop a revBrowser compatible with Linux ?

Yes, the user password should be sufficient. This shouldn't need a separate root password.
Long shot here, but if the user account isn't in the sudoers file then that still won't work. The bad news is that running visudo to edit the sudoers file requires root access.

Re: are there attempts to develop a revBrowser compatible with Linux ?

bogs- thanks for doing the heavy lifting here. I think the 512mb setting is out of date by now. The 8.1.9 installer itself is 330mb, so that would be a lot of memory swapping to get anything done. I'm guessing the requirements haven't been updated in a while. But some of us have been pushing for a *...

Re: are there attempts to develop a revBrowser compatible with Linux ?

My uname -a is unsurprisingly similar to yours (with the exception of your missing -p and -i):

Linux castor 4.4.0-111-generic #134~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 15 15:39:56 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Curious - what does 'uname --version' give you? Here's mine:

uname (GNU coreutils) 8.21
